Hello PhatHanzy You need to replace "winlogon.exe" with a copy from the WinXP CDYou will need an XP installation CD to replace it. Borrow one if you don`t have oneHow to replace it from XP installation CDConfigure your PC to boot from CD if it isn't already set up that way. You may need to enter the BIOS to configure the PC to boot from the CD. Enter the BIOS and set the boot order to floppy (if present) CDROM Hard disk SAVE and EXITStart your PC with the XP Setup CD in the drive. When you see the "Press any key to boot from CD..." prompt, do so and let the CD-based boot process begin. When the Recovery Console option is offered ("Press R to start the Recovery Console"), do so. You may be asked which Windows installation to enter, in which case type the number of the Windows installation you wish to work on (usually "1").When prompted, enter the Administrator's password for that Windows installation. If you did not set a password just press ENTERAt the command prompt, type copy d:\i386\winlogon.ex_ c:\windows\system32\winlogon.exeENTERBe sure to put the spaces in After copy After winlogon.ex_ .

Hello CybertekThank you so much foryour swift reply. I have followed your steps to replace the winlogon.exe without any problems, but after that I restarted my computer andI received winlogon.exe error on windows screen. The error said "winlogong.exe encountered a problem and needed to close." and asked me to send error report or not. After Iclicked on SendError Report, the winlogon.exe error pops up again and I clicked Send Error Report again. This time nothing pops up and just like before, Ican continue work with windows. Seems the problem is not fixed, which I will find out in maybe a few hours or a few mins...Yes, it reboots again after 3 hrs, it's killing me....

PhatHanzy,winlogon.ex_ is a compressed file, i.e not ready for immediate use or execution by Windows. What cybertek should have to you to do was this command...EXPAND d:\i386\winlogon.ex_ c:\windows\system32\winlogon.exeCheers! Ken
