This is my original thread since this was not a the typical service issue.http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=3367258&SiteID=17I still can't get Security Center to start.It's enabled in the Services menu.I can get into Windows Firewall and Windows Defender however i can't access Security Center through control panel or through the annoying Red X in the task tray.No viruses, malware, etc... (I've used McAfee locally and Tend Micro remotely).I've tried going into Safe ModeI've tried booting cleanAny other ideas???

Hi MusicEJR, I suggest you try the following steps to reset repository: 1. Click the start button and search on the word "CMD" - "CMD.exe" should appear. 2. Right click on it and select "run as administrator". 3. In the command window at the prompt type each line and press Enter: net stop winmgmt cd c:\windows\system32\wbem ren repository repository.old net start winmgmt 4. Then, please restart the computer and check the result.

I did everything step for step and it still won't start up.What next should I attempt Sean?(BTW, I do have a decent amount of CPU know how so if there's anything trick you want me to try I'm pretty sure I'll be able to do it.)-Ted

Hi Ted, thanks for the update. Since you cannot open Security Center nor WSCUI.CPL, I suggest you use the following method to check the file WSCUI.CPL: 1. Go to Start, type CMD under "Start Search" and press Enter. 2. Use the command to check the file: sfc /verifyfile=C:\Windows\System32\WSCUI.CPL 3. Let's see if it finds any integrity violation.

Hi Ted, it seems that the issue can be caused by other corrupted system files. I suggest you try the following two methods this time: 1. Click the Start button 2. From the Start Menu, Click All programs followed by Accessories 3. In the Accessories menu, Right Click on the Command Prompt option 4. From the drop down menu that appears, Click on the "Run as administrator" option 5. If you have the User Account Control (UAC) enabled you will be asked for authorization prior to the command prompt opening. You may simply need to press the Continue button if you are the administrator or insert the administrator password etc. 6. In the Command Prompt window, type: sfc /scannow and then press Enter 7. A message will appear stating that 'the system scan will begin' 8. Be patient because the scan may take some time 9. If any files require replacing SFC will replace them. You may be asked to insert your Vista DVD for this process to continue 10. If everything is okay you should, after the scan, see the following message "Windows resource protection did not find any integrity violations" 11. After the scan has completed, Close the command prompt window If you still receive the message "Windows resource protection did not find any integrity violations", we can reinstall Windows Vista Service Pack 1 and see the result.

I had #10... it didn't find any irregularties. I went and downloaded service pack 1.I tried to reinstall it, but it won't reinstall. I get the message. "Service Pack 1 is already installed"What next?

Hi Ted, you can firstremove Service Pack for Microsoft Windows in Control Panel - Programs and features - Installed updates, then reinstall it.

And Update: I uninstalled the Service Pak update and I can access the Security Center now. Also I've got a couple icons in my system tray for a couple other programs are now there... seems the Service Pak had disabled them. IDT audio control system and Riva Tuner (for my Geforce video card). So... I guess the Service Pack update installed wonky then?!?! I'm going try and reinstall it now to see what happens. Again, thanks for the help. It's been great!

Reinstalling Service Pack 1 was the answer. My computer is actually running a bit faster as well now. When the Service Pack installed it obviously installed wrong and did something wonkey. Your help has been greatly appreciated!!! Thank You Sean
