Stereo mix does not hear sound card when headphones are plugged into the front port, only if they are in the rear ones
Hello,
My problem.
I mix/overdub and record audio and thus make use of the stereo mix in windows 7.
If I plug headphones into the rear 'speaker' socket of the PC then the stereo mix picks up the sounds from the sound card. However this deafens me as I have to have the headphones at a speaker volume - not headphone volume - in order for the stereo mix to
be loud enough.
If I plug the headphones into the frount headphone socket then the stereo mix does not pick up anything. It is not muted, nor is it unavalable - it just does not hear the sound card.
The only way I have successfully overdubed is to feed the speaker into my mixer and use the control room 'phones control, somwhat of a sledgehammer to crack a very annoying nut.
So:
1. Is there any way to make the stereo mix volume indendant of the main speaker volume, so I can plug the phones in the back of the PC - adjust the speaker volume, but still have the stereo mix loud enough to record.
Or
2. How do I get the stereo mix to hear the sound card when the phones are plugged into the front jack?
This is not a hardware issue I have Linux on the same box and can do the eqivelent of either of the above with that OS.
Thanks in advance.
J.

Hi,
Does windows volume mixer reset to a fixed value or a random value? To have a hardware troubleshooting first, in the meantime, youd better update the motherboard driver and BISO to the latest version for test.
