I've find this hard to live with, why isn't there a way to add a static ip address to a NIC that is DHCP active? Windows always punch in the face, this was possible in previous versions of Windows but MS decided to make my and many others life a bit harder and frustrating. What takes a few minutes in a nix* system isn't possible in Windows? I want to add a static ip address to all my computers in my home(about 10) without installing a local DHCP, for the reason that I want a public ip-address to all my computers(servers) witch my ISP provides. Although I want a local network due to security reasons. And this should be possible without any new purchase of network equipment and so on. Why Windows users is more frustrated then others? Not hard to understand.

Probably I don't understand you, as the method of adding a static IP-address to a NIC has not changed since Windows XP. Wolfgang

Hi, maybe I wasen't that clear! Previously you could add a static ip to a nic that was selected to recivce information from a DHCP in the registry like this: http://www.petri.co.il/configure_tcp_ip_to_use_dhcp_and_a_static_ip_address_at_the_same_time.htm But since Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 this is no longer a posibility.

I don't understand why you are coming across so agressively. People are willing to help you, but not if you are abusive in your messages. In any case, you can add all of the static IPs that you wish on a NIC by accessing the IPv4 properties. On the General tab, click the Advanced button. In the IP addresses section, click Add. Add all of the static IPs that you wish to the NIC. As Wolfgang mentioned, this process has not changed. Guides and tutorials, visit ITGeared.com.

I can't see anything in my first message that was anyway agressive? So if you got me that way, you got me wrong :) I'm just frustrated over the fact that I can't add a static ip-address to a NIC that is selected to reccive information from a DHCP! Well if you think about it it's quite understandeble but however there are many people wanting to do this and where able to do so in Windows XP and Windows 2003 Server. If you for example get alot of external ip-addresses from your ISP and you want serveral computers with these external ip-addresses but allso the abillity to connect simultaniously to an internal network that shoulnd be a problem, right? But it is, at lest if you're using Windows! I have two Mac Minis and two servers running Debian and it works there? So I tought that this couldn't be such a big hassle/problem with Windows but it is. Therefore I'm posting in this fourm. And if someone got the picutre that I was aggreesiv I'm sorry, I just wanted to state the problem and figure out if there was a solution that don't include buying new network equipment, reconfigure a server or running a NAT.

I presume this configuration is not possible anymore in Win7 as adding an IPv4 address removes dhcp and enabling dhcp removes all configured IP-addresses. But I do not see a point in this configuration as adding secondary local IP-addresses to an already assigned external IP-address on one interface does not bring you any security enhancement over using the existing external IP-addresses. Only if you would put your local network on seperate NICs would give you better security. Wolfgang

I have had the same problem. It is possible in Windows 7 to use DHCP address and static IP address on the same NIC simultaneously!. You can configure DHCP ipv4 address and static ipv6 address on the same card. It works. I use static address from private pool in readible for me form, e.g. - fc00::192.168.178.x/120. Do not use ipv4 mapped address like ::ffff.192.168.178.x/64. It doesn't work. I have managed to have access to my shared folders using ipv6 addresses and to have access to internet using DHCP ipv4 address. Piotr p.filipowicz@vuecom.net
