Startup sound
Hello:This seems to be more a statement than a question. On all my Windows versions, since Windows 98 in fact, I had my own and same personalized startup music. This got reduced and clipped with XP I believe. Now it seems that it is completely impossible to change it. I cannot even rename the Startup.wav to my "tune" and deeply regret it. This is not very logical, especially in the view that it is possible to change all the other sounds, even the Windows close (for which I have my own and always same sound also. I know some says it slows down the starup process, and it probably does, but shouldn't that be a decision of the consumer, me ? If I want to put up with a slightly slower start, it is MY problem, perogative, no ?Otherwise Windows 7 performs great, many very useful enhancements, it is NOT a"warmed over" Vista.Andre

Hi,There is a way, but you'd better be sure you want to do this:1.select an audio file of your choice and make sure you convert it to a wave file not just by changing the extension .wav2.rename it 5080 if you are using the english version of windows 7, so your audio file should be 5080.wave .(DONT MAKE YOUR WAVE FILE MORE THEN 330 KB AS I'M NOT SURE HOW BIG IT CAN BE) 3.copy (imageres.dll) file you will find this in c:\windows\system32 and save it to the desktop also make a copy of it and put it in a safe place just in case things dont go right for you.4.download XN resource Editor. Open the imageres.dll file in theXN resource editor that you have saved to your desktop find the folder that containing the wavs and expand it. At the bottom there's a file called 5080. Expand it and right click >delete resource on the file version English (United States)5.select the resource in XN Resourse Editor then select import user resource. Get your fileyou renamed to 5080 and save it. Exit the resource editor now and replace the imageres.dll file with the one you have made into c:\windows\system32 andreboot. This method implies playing with system files which is not a recommended way and might not be allowed by Microsoft.RegardsRem

Hi,AsI know, Windows 7 doesn't support methods for changing startup sound. The startup sound is registered as a system file, it is not recommended to modify system files. Any incorrect modification can cause unrecoverable issue. However, there are some workaround on Internet such as using ResHacker.Note: we provide this workaround for references, Microsoft doesn't officailly support it and guarantee the security of these changes. Best Regards.Dale Qiao
