Startup issue
Hi all,Having a major problem with my desktop pc at present. Wondering if someone could please offer any advice. My computer is not starting up at all. It seems to be stopping during the POST and I get nothing displayed on my monitor. After I power up, it takes about 10 seconds to then receive one long (and somewhat wavering) beep. I have not changed my system at all lately. The last change was increasing RAM about 6 months ago. I have a 2.5 y.o. system - AMD dual core, 3GB RAM.I have googled this issue and found that the memory may be problematic or it may be a motherboard issue. I have removed my 4 sticks of RAM and inserted them one at a time in different banks. I have also removed my CPU Heatsink fan, cleaned and checked its operation. I have also gone over the motherboard with a soft paintbrush to remove all built up dust. Although any motherboard issue may be miniscule, I cannot see anything noticable. I have reseated all PCI cards and reseated all connections from the PS to the DVD drives, HDs and floppy drive. I have also reseated all wiring connections to the motherboard such as CPU heatsink fan connection. If anyone has any other suggestions I'd be very appreciative. Thanks very much.Regards,Joe2 people need an answerI do too

Hi all,Firstly, thanks to all who viewed.I had someone suggest that it may be a PS related issue if the Motherboard isn't receiving the voltage it requires. I was told to watch the keyboard when I powered up the machine to see if the 3 lights blink, which they do.I have also removed all unnecessary components from the machine prior to startup. I removed the sound card, 2 dvd drives, the floppy drive, and the 2 additional storage HDs.Unfortuantely I still have nothing.Any assistance would be apprecaited.Regards,Joe

Hi coork,Thanks so much for your reply.Unfortunately the computer fails to even load DOS hence I am not able to get to Safe Mode or the Recovery Console - the computer stops before I get anything visible on the screen. If anyone else has any thoughts it would be appreciated.Regards,Joe

Hi coork, Thanks for the reply. I'd be surprised if it is a Win XP issue. My PC has issues during the POST which I believe is well before the OS starts to load. I don't even have the opportunity to enter the BIOS. Please correct me if I am wrong though. Cheers, Joe.

Hi coork,Thank again for your replies, I really apprecaite them. Not that I think the issue is related to the BIOS, but the computer doesn't boot that far. So it certainly won't boot far enough to try any of the suggestions on your link. I might see if I can find a check POST Diagnostic card and see if that tells me anything.Cheers, Joe

hello if the keyboard your using is a usb disconnect and find a ps2 keyboard and mouse (usb ports start later in the startup sequence than ps2) and retry to access the bios setting so that the cd player starts firstIf this post helps to resolve your issue, Please click the Mark as Answered check mark on this page it helps others who need quick access to answers THANK YOU AND GOOD LUCK

Hi coork, I have already removed my original USB keyboard and replaced with a PS2. I am still not getting through the POST and hence do not get the option to enter the BIOS. Thanks for replying. Cheers, Joe

Hello JoeAverage.. I would start by checking the BIOS chip... sounds like if you can't even get into the BIOS Setup it might be the Chip itself...
