I am trying to speed up my startup. I read to use MS Defender to clean out unneeded startup items. I can't load it because I already have MS Security Essentials. What Items / programs do I need at startup? I have windows XP.I have no idea what MS Defender is unless you mean Windows Defender. If that is the case, Windows Defender is a malware scanner and does not provide the option to enable/disable start-up items. Perhaps what you read referred to MSCONFIG. The link below provides an excellent guide for informing you what is and is not a necessary start-up item. However, instead of using MSCONFIG use Services. To access Services follow the steps below.Click Start > Run > type services.msc > Click Ok. http://www.theeldergeek.com/services_compiled.htmI don't vote for myself I'm not here for the points.
