Stability and Background/display issues on laptop
Hi, I have been using windows 7 for about 2 weeks now and I am having a fewpersistentissues that I either cannot resolve on my own or can't find any help on the web. My first issue, When I close my laptop and turn off my monitors at night, I have it set so windows 7 doesn't do anything (like shutting down, turning off the monitor, etc.). When I wake up the next morning, a few hours later, I open up my laptop and turn on my monitors to find that windows is frozen...again. I have tried resolving this before by putting my laptop in performance mode. Putting my laptop in performance mode made it idle and come out of idle perfectly as long as I didn't close the lid. So what should my next step be be to prevent it from freezing when I close the lid? My second issue, When I close the lid of my laptop windows insists on sending my primary monitor to my secondary, my secondary monitor to mytertiary, and "shutting off" my third so all of the windows open on the third are repositioned on my new primary. I would like to stop this whole monitor switching business because my background gets messed up (Explained in the following paragraphs) and I am sure this is what is causing my freezing - its the only variable that I can see at this point. For those of you who care about my background: I have 3 monitors: 1) My laptop which is 1920 x 1200 and is my primary. 2)Acer al1706 running 1280 x 1024 connected directly to my laptop 3)Acer al1706 running 1280 x 1024 connected through an IOgear usb video card I close my laptop like usual, and open it again. It doesn't seem to matter how long its closed when my background screws up. When I reopen my laptop, the bottom 176 pixels (or 1200 - 1024) is now black. Where this black bar exists, I have no icons and no background. My icons still exist, but they are hidden by the black and cannot be clicked on or selected (except the half icon that shows). On my other 2 monitors, the background that originally displayed fine is now displayed on only the left-half of my second monitor and the rest is black as well. I have added a link to a picture of my background in case it helps. Remember I don't see the white in this case. http://i738.photobucket.com/albums/xx22/DeChrono/MyScrewedUpbackground.jpg Thank you in advance for any feedback! DeChrono

It may be interesting to note that I just tried doing the 3D window flip (something I thought they cut out of windows 7) and it seems to have refreshed my desktop background. This works until I open another window and its right back to the same problem. Not sure if this helps. DeChrono

Do you have power settings on laptop set to always remain on when not on battery and your laptop lid set to do nothing whenever it is closed. Chervern
