Spell Check does not work locks up OE6
Can not use spell check. When I do OE locks up and I have to shut down, losing anything in that message. I have tryed creating a new identity, which did not resolve the problem. I also downloaded a third party spell check form Geeksquad, which did not resolve the problem. I have OE 6, Office XP w/sp3.Note: I had issues where I could not send messages. When I hit send OE would lock up and I would have to shout down. Through this forum I resolved that by creating new identities (2 separate).1 person needs an answerI do too

OE has never had a spell check of its own, so:What spell check were you using? What spell check did you download from Geeksquad? (A link if you have one). Bruce Hagen ~ MS-MVP [Mail]Imperial Beach, CA

Below is the link. I was using the Spell Check button on the toolbar on the drop down when creating a message.http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=2952

OK. That's the Vampirefo spell check and I have been using it for years on many machines. You still did not say what spell check you were using before. Should I assume you have Office/Word installed? That's the only place OE can get a spell check without a third party spell checkWhat version of Office/Word do you have? Since it happens in new identities, I have a suspicion that your issue is some sort of conflict with Word. Any recent Office updates that coincide with when this issue started?Bruce Hagen ~ MS-MVP [Mail]Imperial Beach, CA

I have office 2007. Spell Check has never worked for me in OE. I looked in this forum regarding Spell Check. Most posts indicate that they can only use French. Mine never worked, but after resoving my last issue through this issue I looked to see if Spell Check could be fixed and a lot of the responses directed the user to the third party resolution and Geek Squad was at the top of the list.

That's Major Geeks actually, but you said in your first post that you had this issue before you downloaded the spell check. Is that correct? If it just started, remove the Vampirefo spell check and reboot. Download and Save it from this site.SnapFileshttp://www.snapfiles.com/get/spelloe.htmlNow close all programs and turn of your AV program and install it.If that doesn't make a difference, or you were having problems before using this spell check, download and run the free version of this tool.Malwarebytes Anti-Malwarehttp://malwarebytes.org/Bruce Hagen ~ MS-MVP [Mail]Imperial Beach, CA

Major Geeks, sorry. Background:I have used OE for about 2 years. Spell Check never worked. It just did not work. I would cut & paste into windows, do my spell check there, and then cut & paste back into the OE e-mail message window and send.Looking through this forum I found that this is common, although most people are indicating the issue with the French language default. My issue is different. Now when I hit the Spell Check button the message window freezes and I can not do anything. My only option is to shut down OE and restart. When I shut down my message is lost and I have to stat over.I already have Malwarebytes Anti-Maleware installed. I did that while addressing the issue of not being able to send a message. That issue would freeze the message window when I hit send. That was fixed by adding new identities.

I have used OE for about 2 years. Spell Check never worked. It just did not work. My issue is different. Now when I hit the Spell Check button the message window freezes and I can not do anything. Please clarify the above. I understand the spell check in Office 2007 will not work, but did it freeze OE then? Or did the freezing start when using the new spell check you got from Major Geeks?Bruce Hagen ~ MS-MVP [Mail]Imperial Beach, CA

No, the freeze started yesterday. This was after I created new identities to resolve the other problem. Before that Spell Check just did not work, but it did not freeze. It froze before and after the Major Geeks download.

Please answer these 5 questions.1: is: Always check spelling before sending checked? Uncheck it and do a manual spell check. Any difference?2: Did you remove and reinstall the spell check as I suggested above?3: Disconnect from the Internet and then disable your anti-virus program. Does spell check work now?4: Have you deleted the original problem identities?5: What AV programs are installed on your machine? Has Norton or McAfee ever been installed including a free trial?Bruce Hagen ~ MS-MVP [Mail]Imperial Beach, CA

1: is: Always check spelling before sending checked? Uncheck it and do a manual spell check. Any difference? No, it is unchecked. No difference, still froze.2: Did you remove and reinstall the spell check as I suggested above? Yes.3: Disconnect from the Internet and then disable your anti-virus program. Does spell check work now? No, still freezes.4: Have you deleted the original problem identities? No, I had not. I did delete them but no change, still freezes.5: What AV programs are installed on your machine? Has Norton or McAfee ever been installed including a free trial? I have Norton Security Suites, downloaded free from Comcast.

Other than removing Norton, the only thing I can suggest is to remove the spell check you have now and try this one instead.TinySpell http://www.tinyspell.m6.net/ Bruce Hagen ~ MS-MVP [Mail]Imperial Beach, CA
