Hi all, I've been having an issue with Windows7 ever since I got an HDMI capable surround kit (receiver and speakers combined). If I boot windows with the surround system off, it detects stereo speakers only and passes through 2 channel audio fine to the TV. If I boot with the surround system on, then it detects full 5.1 audio and I can use DTS passthrough to watch movies fine. My issue is that I cannot find a way to force windows to detect 5.1 speakers if I turn the surround system on AFTER windows has booted. Also if the speaker system turns itself off as it's not detcted any audio for 15 minutes, then Windows reverts to the 2 channel audio and the option to configure the speakers as 5.1 disappears. I've tried restarting windows audio services, AMD detection service, reinstalling the hdmi device in device manager, nothing works. Does anyone know of a way I can do this, as it's extremely irritating to have to reboot everytime I want to watch a movie. I'm using a Radeon 6870 HDMI to pass audio to a Sony HT-AS5 kit, on W7 x64, if it helps to know. Cheers, Robin.

Actually, scratch that, I've fixed it by over riding the EDID. I'd tried this before but had an old version of moninfo that didn't capture the audio block on the edid, the later one does. For anyone else that wants to do this, download moninfo, save an INF of your amp's EDID, then update the driver for your monitor. Choose to browse for the driver, then select "Let me pick from a list..." and browse to where you saved your INF. Once installed, restart and it shows as having 5.1
