Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W30 6MP Digital Camera Not recognized

Hi,

the device (Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W30 6MP Digital Camera ) used to work fine up to windows 8, just clean install of the OS, camera plug in and you could browse the pictures.

After installing windows 8.1, both upgrade and clean install and two different platforms (intel and amd), the problem follows:

Sony does not provide any driver.

Thanks for any help.

Uninstall the driver and restart your PC and run Windows Update and install all updates and then install the latest driver for it. If there is not for Windows 8.1, install the one for Windows 8.

Also, report this issue to Sony support.

I'm sorry but it's not Answered, i was using no custom driver before nor now. It's the standard windows one as you can see in the picture near the label "Driver Provider".

The fact is, that it worked with standard windows driver up to windows 8. Win 8.1 broke it.

Thanks, Valerio

Hi Valerio,

I suggest you try following solutions:

Install the latest Windows Updates

Please also test if this issue persists in safe mode.

Windows Startup Settings (including safe mode)

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-IN/windows-8/windows-startup-settings-including-safe-mode

And please install your motherboards latest chipset drivers:

  1. Review your computer's documentation which should contain the name of the motherboard manufacturer.
  2. Visit your computer manufacturer's support website. For a list of computer manufacturers' support sites, visit: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/help/contact-support/computer-manufacturers

Navigate their website to find the appropriate drivers for your motherboard. For assistance, contact your computer manufacturer.

Regards,

Yolanda

I am having this exact same issue. My Windows Update says I'm up to date, as does the drivers for my motherboard. Any other ideas? In Windows 8 it worked just fine, 8.1 - nothing.

I just found this solution on the forum but it won't let me link the page. But here's what you do:

When you connect the camera, for USB Mode, put it in "PTP" not "normal" as it usually would be. This will give you a work around until MS comes out with an update.

Oh MY THANK YOU!!! Changing my Sony Cybershot USB Mode to "PTP" did the trick! After SEARCHING and SEARCHING for a way for my camera to work with 8.1 since the update I was thinking of taking the bridge ~ LoL. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
