If your son chose to delete the user files performing a system restore will not restore the files since system restore does not monitor personal data. I recommend you stop using the computer at all, although it may already be too late, to prevent overwriting the lost data. Download and install Recuva from Piriform. It is a file recovery software and is completely free. I use it quite a bit myself and used it just last week to recover over 45 videos accidentally deleted by a customer.
