Something strange with UAC and file permissions
It seems I couldnt get write access to my files after trying UAC on highest (and 2nd highest).I had to drop it back down to the lowest setting (didnt try 2nd lowest setting) and reboot to regain access to my files. Is this to be expected?Does this have something to do with the files being copied over to this system (owned by) an administrator account?

Hi, Which file or folder do you want to get write access permission? Do you mean the C:\Users\profile folder or other folder? Usually, the UAC default setting is configured as "Don't notify me when I make changes to Windows settings" (The second highest level) and most of files can be written. Alternatively, you can create a new admin profile and check the result. If there is any error, please upload it for research. Thanks, Novak

Actually it's all my files, excel docs, c# project files, even my outlook pst files.I never use any windows folders. All my local data resides off a single root directory which I create.I didnt think to try creating a new admin profile at the time.

Create a new admin profile is only a troubleshooting step and we can verify whether the issue is caused by current profile or all profile. We can remove the new created user later when the issue is resolved. To create a new profile, please refer to the following article: Create-a-user-account After creating a new account, please launch an Excel file or other file for a test. Meanwhile, please assure the current profile is added to the administrator group. Thanks, Novak
