I am getting this message while installing Windows 8-Pro upgrade:

Something Happened... We can't tell if your PC is ready to continue instaling Window 8. Try restarting setup

I tried numerous times and kind of gave up, any help will be greatly appreciated.

Do you happen to be using a McAfee antivirus? Try uninstalling McAfee using their removal tool.

After which, try the installation of Windows 8 again. Hopefully, it pushes through then you can install back an UPDATED version of McAfee

Some people also encountered this with a Kaspersky antivirus installed. Removing it allowed them to finish the Windows 8 installation.

I'm getting the same error and I have Microsoft Security Essentials as my anti-virus. This is BEYOND frustrating. Nice launch, Microsoft.

I have been trying to solve this issue for two days now,

I removed my Symantec Internet Security, any installed PC Utilitiy software, and still getting the same message.

I called Microsoft and the Tech was working with me for an hour and still we couldn't install it. Wasted so much time!!

I have experienced the same problem that you have in trying to upgrade to Windows 8 Pro.  I went through all the suggestions posted on this site and was still unable to complete the upgrade and consistently received the same error message.  Spent a total of 5 days trying.  I was finally able to complete the upgrade by doing the following:
(1)  Removed my antivirus software (was using Avast Antivirus).
(2)  Removed all software that had anything to do with system maintenance (i.e., Advance System Care, CCleaner, Wise Registry Cleaner, Wise Disk Cleaner, Malwarebytes, Smart Defrag, etc.)
(3)  Last, and very important, go to your Bios and see if you have an Anti Surge Support control listed.  If so, disable it.  Exit the Bios and save the change.

After performing these actions, the upgrade went fine.
