Some games to not continue after splash screen.

I've already asked it on answers.microsoft.com but didn't get any reply. So, thought I would ask here.

What I've tried:

  1. App troubleshooter
  2. sfc /scannow
  3. Answers in http://superuser.com/questions/562188/windows-8-metro-apps-wont-load

also, I've tried some technet links but in vain.

I've installed two games - Sonic Dash and Despicable Me 2:Minion Rush. Both of these games to not work after splash screen and they get minimized.

I've checked the event log and found this

Activation of app SegaNetworksInc.56538047DFC80_as33fap47kd3c!App failed with error: The remote procedure call failed. See the Microsoft-Windows-TWinUI/Operational log for additional information.

And full details here

Faulting application name: Template.exe, version: 2.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x5492b318
Faulting module name: combase.dll, version: 6.3.9600.17031, time stamp: 0x53086d7c

Faulting package full name: SegaNetworksInc.56538047DFC80_2.0.0.0_x86__as33fap47kd3c
Faulting package-relative application ID: App

Apparently it has something to do with remote procedure call. When I open the other game, I get same errors as the above, the only thing which has changed being name of the app.

Graphics shouldn't be a problem since these games have ALREADY run once, but not now, and I have other heavy-graphic games like Asphalt 8 Airborne which still WORKS.

I've also tried re-installing but in vain, duh. Looking for help badly. I'd appreciate any help.

Hi Amit,

Did the issue occur on all of the Windows Store Apps or just the specific two games ?

To get  a better performance ,please always keep the system up to date.
Please take the following steps to have a check :

1.If there are updates of the games ,please keep them up to date .

2.Check the status of the Remote Procedure call service .Turn off the firewall and antivirus software temporarily to have a check .

3.Run dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth as an administrator to have a check of the system health.

4.Register the Windows Store according to the following to have a check :
Store App in Windows 8.1
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/notime/archive/2013/10/18/fix-store-app-in-windows-8-1.aspx

5. Run wsreset.exe to clear the store cache to have a check.

Yup. Only those two games aren't working. Also, I've already done DISM scan, and windows store app works fine, so 4th point isn't needed I suppose. And I've also checked the last link way before and that didn't help the matter too.

Hi Amit,

Are there any errors or warnings recorded in the following path ?

Event Viewer>Applications and Services Logs>Microsoft>Windows>AppModel-Runtime or Apps

Please refer to the following link to check the permissions issue.

What to do if your Windows 8 Modern App fails to start
http://blogs.technet.com/b/askperf/archive/2013/10/11/what-to-do-if-your-windows-8-modern-app-fails-to-start.aspx

You may need to change the permissions ,here is a link for reference :

Sorry. Those two links too didn't work. I did all that was instructed in them. However I really appreciate your effort in solving my problem.

I checked the event log in the path which you asked me to and got this

Activation of the app SegaNetworksInc.56538047DFC80_as33fap47kd3c!App for the Windows.Launch contract failed with error: The remote procedure call failed..

Can the error log be of some help?

January 28th, 2015 8:12am

Hi Amit,

According to the log Event ID 5961,the issue seems to be related to the specific user permissions "<Security UserID="S-1-5-21-66860032-2800664797-2745505841-1010" /> ".

Please look at this link and try the methods in it to have a check:

Hi Amit,

What is the architecture of your system ?
The driver included in the link is a 32bit driver .

Here is a link for reference of troubleshooting this issue :

Error Messages Seen When Installing Intel Graphics Drivers
http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/sb/CS-034659.htm

Considering this is related to the Intel Graphic driver ,it is recommended to ask help from the Intel forum .They have much more sources to resolve the issue.

I downgraded my display adapter and found out that the issue was the absence of Windows Media Feature Pack.

I downloaded it from www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=42503 and installed it. Then ugraded my display driver to what it was before and everything worked fine.
