Software installation
I have some users who are administrators on their Windows 7 desktops, but they are unable to install files of type "setup.exe" with the error "this operation was cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer." I checked the policy settings using RSOP.msc on the desktops, and the software policies are set to unrestricted by default, along with an enforcement that applies the policy to all users. There are no file types specified within the designated file types, but that shouldn't be preventing setup files from getting executed, right? Is there something else that I need to look at? The same users are able to install .msi packages on these desktops. Thanks, Sumitha Rachel Kurien

Hi Sumitha , Would you please let me know if the issue only occurred on Windows 7 desktop? How about these users on other computers? Generally, the issue is caused by incorrect GPO. I suggest contacting Server Forum to verify the root cause. Win Server Forum http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/category/windowsserver From Windows 7 side, I suggest right click the setup.exe and run as administrator. If possible, you could disable UAC for testing.
