Small business networking question.
Our small business now consists of 5 computers networked together using Windows XP.I did this 6 years ago when we opened our office and basically have not touched in since that time. The machine that is currently our "Server" or file storage machine has started having issues because of age, etc. So we are going to be replacing it ASAP with a new machine and because of this I have 2 questions. 1) Will we have problems if we use Windows 7 on this new machine as we are not at this time planning on upgrading the other 4 computers to Windows 7? We plan on using this new machine as the central file storage or "server". 2) How do I go about recreating the network when I remove the existing machine and hook up this new one. Do I have to go through the entire process of creating a new network and adding all the computers and printers again, or is there some easier way to keep everything as is? Any help will be greatly appreciated! Keep in mind I know just enough about this to get myself in trouble, as I am in no shape or form an IT expert! Thanks in advance! Shawn

as long as the network name/location are the same on each pc, should not be too bad, but it does depend on the version of the OS, I.E. vista home prem can use simple share option where as the prof-edition, it would be more involved. hope this helps.
