I doubt it will be delivered with Windows 8, as Windows 8 will be shipped with wa newer version (11 or ?) However, you can install the runtimes on Windows 7. http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=35. Microsoft is making a great deal about software and driver compatibility so chances are this will be supported in Windows 8 too. Thanks for the reply, i know about the web installers, redist, etc... it just that it would be nice to have to it pre-installed so that games will work as some games ask for specific directx files. Seems logical to have the latest DX9 files installed for compatibility. I know that Windows 8 will comes with DX 11 or possibly 12, but as i said.. some games request specific DX9 files which are not present. At least make it available via Windows Update (Optional) for previous version of Windows.

I do not share your opninion that Microsoft should deliver legacy components out-of-the bow if not required. After all it is also the softwrae developer's responability to deliver all required redistributables (hey, why are they called redistributable ;) for their program to work. requiring MS to do so would, in my opninion, cause more troubles than good. Imagine a freshly installed computer, with directx8,9,10 and 11 installed, .net framework 1,2,3,.. silverlight 1,2,and why not, IE7,8 and 9. are you really sure that would be the best option. From Microsoft's point of view, clear choices have to be made about what is to be considered legacy and what shoul be preinstalled and what not. To come back on Windows 8: i will contain an app store! So Microsoft might disitribute some middlewares from there! And another consideration: since Vista, Microsoft has put a lot of effort in self-diagnosing computing. If an application fails because of a missing file, and users report the error using the built-in features, chances are they will receive a "solution" popup stating they need to install/reinstall the component. This might be another way to adress legacy DirectX issues.MCP/MCSA/MCTS/MCITP

.Net Framework 1, 2, 3... already work on Windows 7 without having to download their redist probably so that older programs work on it, which is the same reason DX9 should be implemented so the everyday person does not have to go through the trouble of getting those files (especially if they have a slow connection). Most recent games are mostly DX9 not 10 or 11. The majority of users probably have a DX9 graphics cards so there is no reason not to include the latest DX9 files instead of outdated/missing/minimum DX9 files. DX 5,6,7,8 work fine with DX9 is installed. So you wouldn't need DX8 and below installed. Here is something from another website. "The Win7/Vista installs do not contain the updated DX 9.0c libraires that were continually released after DX 9.0c came out. Many of the new .DLL's that were added are REQUIRED for newer games that run in DX9 mode, and must be downloaded. " All i am asking if those files can be updated and the missing files included in Windows 8. Again, most modern games are DX9 and most graphics cards are probably DX9. Every computer in my house and friends computers' have fixed are also DX9 so it's logical to have the latest DX9 installed rather than an outdated DX9 installed with missing files. "I do not share your opninion that Microsoft should deliver legacy components out-of-the box if not required." But they are required!
