Small Business Server Domain
I am testing Vista in a Windows Small Business Server 2003 Domain. To join a SBS domain you must browse to http:\\<servername>\connectcomputer. Then you click a link that automates the process for you. When I do this, I get a message that says "you must be a member of the administrator group on the local machine" I am an administrator on the local machine... Thanks for any help!

Same here. The only way that I can join the domain, is to manually do it. I go to the "Control Panel" - "System", and the select the "Advanced System Settings". From there I select the "Computer Name" tab on the "Systems Properties" window. I then click on the "Change" button and join the domain from there. After I did the restart, I was then able to login as any user onthe domain. Although I had to give credentials from an administrative account that resided on the PC before I joined the domain. To get around this you have to go into User Accounts, and add users from the domain in the "Users" tab andgive them "Administrators" group membership just like the "http:\\<servername>\connectcomputer" would automatically do for you in XP and 2000. I also noticed that you can't change the way users logon to Vista. This behavior only changes a little after the PC has been joined to the domain. I hope they address these issue without having to upgrade our server to SBS2003 R2. Hope this helps some as a temporary work around. I personally look forward to a real solution. 3DCrash

I was able to join the domain but when I logged in I still didn't have access to the domain. Turns out that the login was still to a local account. When I did a <Ctrl-Alt-Del> to change my password I found that I could then specify my <domain\username> and login properly. It now stays that way. Not sure I really like the way it handles this. I will continue to search SBS forums to see if they are going to address this. I'll let you know if I find anything. Thanks for your help :)
