Slow to save MS Office files in Windows 7
Our Windows 7 users have issues where MS Office 2007 Applications are sometimes slow to save files to the user's Documents folder when configured as Offline files. I can reproduce this issue with MS Word 2007 by creating a new file, type in a short amount of text, save the file, make a small change, save the file again, continue doing this and on the third time time it will take about 35 seconds to save (other saves happen instanously). A work-around which works for our users that I found searching the internet was to turn off Indexing for Offline files. As this workaround degates the usefulness of MS Search, I would prefer to find a fix for the issue. On the Internet I have seen this issue reported for Vista users as well, however our Vista users do not have this issue, neither do our Windows XP users, only Windows 7 Users have this issue. The following information is further details our our environment, and I do not believe that it has any bearing on the problem. Windows SBS 2003 Server, Client computers are Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7, Symantec SEP antivirus. We are moving toward Windows 7, are trialing it stability and performance. Things that I have tried, a) Uninstalling our anitvirus (SEP) but this had no effect. 2) File saves were at time taking from 5 to 30 minutes until I set SMB2 to 0 and SMB1 to 1 on the Windows 7 PCs. see HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters REG_DWORD SMB2 .
