Slow to save MS Office files in Windows 7
Our Windows 7 users have issues where MS Office 2007 Applications are sometimes slow to save files to the user's Documents folder when configured as Offline files. I can reproduce this issue with MS Word 2007 by creating a new file, type in a short amount of text, save the file, make a small change, save the file again, continue doing this and on the third time time it will take about 35 seconds to save (other saves happen instanously). A work-around which works for our users that I found searching the internet was to turn off Indexing for Offline files. As this workaround degates the usefulness of MS Search, I would prefer to find a fix for the issue. On the Internet I have seen this issue reported for Vista users as well, however our Vista users do not have this issue, neither do our Windows XP users, only Windows 7 Users have this issue. The following information is further details our our environment, and I do not believe that it has any bearing on the problem. Windows SBS 2003 Server, Client computers are Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7, Symantec SEP antivirus. We are moving toward Windows 7, are trialing it stability and performance. Things that I have tried, a) Uninstalling our anitvirus (SEP) but this had no effect. 2) File saves were at time taking from 5 to 30 minutes until I set SMB2 to 0 and SMB1 to 1 on the Windows 7 PCs. see HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters REG_DWORD SMB2 .

I do not use Word much but I use Excel a lot and its no problem saving even complex financials. There is definitely some problem with the machine if it takes that long. I have indexing on, and its not a problem, either on the local machine or the LAN. So there some other problem that needs to be identified. Vote if answered or helpful, I am running for Office (joke)! IT/Developer, Windows/Linux/Mainframe Need a some parts finish the new server, see the site for remaining items needed

I am having this exact same problem. SBS 2003, Windows 7 Pro workstation. The copy speed is normal when accessing a "normal" server share. When accessing/saving a file in the offline folder share it is super slow.

Hi I am having this exact problem myself and it is driving me crazy! I have my personal folder on the server setup as an offline folder so I can access my files when I'm not on the network. I'm on the office network, so it is pulling the files from the server as it is online. If I go to save the file, it's normally instantaneous - which it should be as I'm directly connected to the network. However, for whatever reason, there are some times when I go to save, it takes 10-15 seconds, as though it is having network problems, and then the office application turns into read-only and won't allow me to save it. So I try and save the file with a new name. Sometimes it works, but on a number of occasions, it won't even let me save it with a new filename it says that it already exists. It's as though it starts to save the file then all of a sudden decides that it can't do it and comes back to say it already exists. I've used Offline files for many years with Vista and now with Win 7 with no problems at all. But it's just in the last month or so it's started doing this. I've already done a full rebuild of my computer but it still occurs In my frustrations, I have searched the internet and seen mentions of it, but this thread is the closest to what I have experienced myself. I'm really hoping that someone out there has a solution. Here's hoping! David

Hi Guys, Exact same problem here, best way to replicate fault is the save multiple times in word as described in the original post! I have two windows 7 pro 64bit computers having the issue. All other workstations are xp and all are working fine. The server is an SBS2008. Also tried same steps above. Any thoughts or developments would be greatly appreciated! Cheers Al
