hi joe probably you have a lot of programs trying to start at once virus scan firewall etc you can go msconfig (start button run msconfig go to the start up tab and open uncheck go to the services tab check hide all ms services un check all boxes and restart if the computer starts up more quickly you know where the problem lies) then one at a time check a box and restart if the computer hangs up the last box checked is the problem if you see any programs or services running that you do not reconize leave it unchecked if it is needed by the system to run correctly the box will check itself good luck

coork,i followed your instructions, but if i leave some services unchecked, each time i restart the computer there is a pop that says that msconfig is not running normal and still on. then it says to click on normal mode, which just restarts all the services I want to leave unchecked. is there a way to leave them unchecked so they dont start up?
