Slow network initialization at startup with Windows 7
Hi all I'm currently working on a project where we're going to deploy windows 7 streamed to clients using Wyse Streaming Manager. I'm almost done getting rid of problems, but one remains: the network is not ready when the user logon screen appears, even though the GPO setting "Always wait for the network at startup" is set to enabled. This has always worked for us in the past, but it doesn't seem to work this time around. I've checked out the Wyse Software, and it's not what's causing problems because the problem is apparent also when the OS runs from a locally attached hdd. This problem is actually quite huge, because we're going to use roaming profiles/desktop redirect etc., and this will obviously not work when users log on before the network is ready. I've worked with this for quite some time now, searched the web, disabling services/features, gp settings etc. etc. No luck, so I'm posting here. Does anybody know where to start on this one? PS! Ipconfig /renew after login goes fast, and network infrastructure seems OK, so I doubt it's a network/server problem.

Hi, Does the issue only occur on certain Windows 7 machine or occur on each machine? Is the machine in a domain? At this stage, I suggest you restart the machine in Safe Mode with Networking and check the result. Thanks, Novak

Hi Novak, and thanks for your reply. I was 100% sure that the problem only occured on this machine, but after some more testing yesterday I'm not so sure anymore... It seems that there's delays on other machines also, but not that significant. I've seen a lot of people on the web report a problem with "Unidentified network" after startup/sleep mode, and I'm starting to think that my problem is related to this. Can't say for sure though. The machine is a part of a domain (but I've ruled out gp processing already - problem is apparent even with no gp's applied) Restarted the machine in Safe Mode with Network, that crashed the image so I'll have to rebuild - got a backup somewhere I think. I would also like to point out that I've tested three different NIC drivers, 'cause I know this problem may occur if there's a driver compatibility issue, but no luck down that road. I've also opened a support case with Wyse (which is the manufacturer of this particular unit), but they've never heard of the problem. This is bothering me a bit, and I'm starting to think that it might be a server/networking problem after all. Maybe a good combination is the cause?

Hi, Please also try the following steps to troubleshoot the issue. 1. Assign a static IP address and DNS address on Windows 7 machine for a test. 2. Upgrade the router’s firmware and restart the Server. 3. Temporarily leave the domain and access to Internet to check the result. Thanks,Novak

Hi Gaffelen, I am experiencing the same issue as you with Windows 7 and Wyse Streaming Software. Did you have any luck correcting the problem?
