Slow network file transfer in one direction between windows 7 PCs
I have a laptop and a desktop pc both running windows 7 home premium. My laptop is connected via WiFI. My desktop is connected via Ethernet. I'm using a Linksys WRT160NL router. Everything is running the latest drivers/firmware. When I try to copy a file from my desktop to my laptop, I am getting about 100Kb/s data transfer (as per the "Details" panel when copying a large file). However, if I transfer a file from the laptop to the desktop I'm getting about 6 Mb/s data transfer. Any ideas? Oh, and the internet speed is fine from the laptop and the desktop (speedtest shows at about 4.6 Mbs on a 5Mbs DSL link) I've tried disabling RDC on my laptop, no luck. I've tried disabling IPv6 on my laptop, no luck. I've tried disabling auto-tuning on my laptop, no luck. I've tried disabling power management on my laptop, no lock. I have no idea what else to try!!!!

I did some more testing, and its apparently just the laptop that its only slow when transferring files from the desktop to the laptop (800 KB/s) whereas transferring files from the laptop to the desktop is faster (6 MB/s). I've tried disabling the laptop Virus Scanner (Microsoft Security Essentials) and it didn't help. I've tried disabling the Firewall (Microsoft Firewall) and it didn't help. Laptop is a Sony Vaio VGN-FW180D, and uses a Intel WGN-5100 WiFi adapter. Latest drivers from Intel. When I connect to the laptop to the internet and download files I get decent download speeds, so I don't think its a disc performance issue. I also checked the fragmentation status, and the disk defrag tool (standard windows defrag tool) says the disk is only 2% fragmented. Is this is ok? Anyone have any ideas at all?

Hi, Try disabling Receive Window Auto-Tuning: 1 Go to Start and type cmd. 2 Right-click on cmd and select “Run as administrator”. 3 Type: netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled and press Enter. If you want to to re-enable it: Type: netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=normal and press Enter. Also you can try configure the network card : 1. Click the Start Button, type "devmgmt.msc" (without quotation marks) in the Start Search box and press Enter. 2. Double click to expand "Network Adaptors". 3. Right click your network card and click Properties. 4. Click Advance tab. High light Speed & Duplex 5. If you would like to use the full functionality, please set the Value to the highest Full. 6. Click OK. ============== These links below maybe helpful to you: Fix Windows 7 Slow Copy [File Transfer] Windows 7 - Slow transfer rate on Wifi Lan Please Note: Since the website is not hosted by Microsoft, the link may change without notice.
