Slow network file copy (FTP fast)
I'm having a strange problem when copying files between a Windows 7 64-bits machine ("Al") and a Windows XP machine ("Ronny"). Both are connected with 1GB network. Test 1: Logged in on "Al". Mount a disk from "Ronny" and copy a file from "Al" to "Ronny". Speed 0 bytes/second. Times out. Test 2: Logged in on "Ronny". Mount a disk from "Al" and copy a file from "Al" to "Ronny. 6 seconds to copy. Test 3: Logged in on "Al". FTP a file from "Al" to "Ronny". 10 seconds to copy. Test 4: Logged in on "Al". Mount a disk from "Ronny" and copy a file from "Ronny" to "Al". 10 seconds to copy. Can anyone help me with this problem? As tests 2, 3 and 4 goes very well, I've ruled out network problems. So why am I unable to copy files from "Al" to "Ronny" using network file copy?

You can try to disable "remote differential compressions" from the windows features. control panel > Programs and features > Turn Windows features on or off > uncheck remote differential compressions In some cases this works

Thanks for the tip. This was already off on "Al" when I did the tests. Is there a similar setting on Windows-XP? To me it seems like there must be a problem with the WinXP *receiving* the file, since pulling it goes very fast.

More detailed information is very helpful in finding the cause of this issue. Please collect the Network Monitor log when this issue occurs. Download: Microsoft Network Monitor 3.3 http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=983b941d-06cb-4658-b7f6-3088333d062f&displaylang=en 1) Install the network monitor on the problematic machine 2) Start the capture and try to reproduce the issue. 2) Once the error is prompted, stop the captures and save the network trace files. Moreover, I have also included the following article to help you use Network Monitor to capture network traffic.
