Slow network copy
Hi When I try and copyfiles from a networked computer XP pro to my vista machine it takes an eternity. Also downloading from the internet is far slower than that of XP. From what I can see this seems to be avery commonproblem but no solutions as yet. Does anyone know how to fix this? Or is the answer reverting back to XP? Regards DJB

Hi, It is known issue on Windows Vista. Did you install Windows Vista SP1? It fixes lots of known problems on Windows Vista. if you do not have it, I suggest installing the SP1 to test this issue again. If it doesnt work, please take the following suggestions. Suggestion 1: Disable Receive Window Auto-Tuning ========================================= 1.Open up an elevated command prompt. 2.Enter the following command to disable auto-tuning netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled 3.Reboot the computer to test this issue again. If you found that this doesnt fix your problem, you can turn it back on. 1.Open up an elevated command prompt. 2.Enter the following command to enable auto-tuning netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=normal Suggestion 2: Check Speed and Duplex Setting ========================================= 1. Click Start, right click Computer and choose Properties. 2. Click Device Manager. 3. Navigate to your Network adapters 4. Right click your device, choose Properties 5. Click Advanced tab 6. Click on Speed and Duplex Settings 7. Choose Auto Negotiation in the Value Tab if it not. 8. Click OK and restart the computer to test this issue again. Hope it helps.

Hi Thanks for the reply I have SP1 and have tried all the fixes suggested.I am using a'g' wireless cardfor network access, I have an older XP machine using a'b' card which is 10 times faster. A wired connection is not really an option for daily use due to location but I will run a cable to tryit so I can rule outany wireless problem. From what I can gather there seems to be a lot of people with the same problem. Thanks DJB

Hi, Many factors can cause slow network transfer problem, we need to take more troubleshoot steps to troubleshoot it. Suggestion 1: Turn off Remote Differential Compression ========================= 1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel. 2. Double-click Programs and Features. 3. Click Turn Windows features on or off. 4. Click to clear the Remote Differential Compression check box, and then click OK. 5. Restart the computer to test this issue. Suggestion 2: Add the CopyFileBufferedSynchronousIo registry entry ============================================== 1. Click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER. 2. Locate and then click the following registry subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\System 3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value. 4. Type CopyFileBufferedSynchronousIo to name the new entry, and then press ENTER. 5. Right-click CopyFileBufferedSynchronousIo, and then click Modify. 6. In the Value data box, type 1 , and then click OK. 7. Exit Registry Editor and restart computer to test this issue. Suggestion 3: Clean Boot ============================= 1. Click Start, type "MSCONFIG" (without the quotations) in the Search Bar and Press "Enter" to start the System Configuration Utility. 2. Click the "Services" tab, check the "Hide All Microsoft Services" box and click "Disable All" (if it is not gray). 3. Click the "Startup" tab, click "Disable All" and click "OK". 4. Restart the computer and test the issue. Note: Clean Boot is a troubleshooting step. If some programs have been disabled, we can re-enable them later. If you see the System Configuration Utility, check the box of "Don't show this message" and then click "OK". Please monitor the system in the Clean Boot environment. If the problem does not occur, it indicates that the problem is related to one application or service we have disabled. You may use the MSCONFIG tool again to re-enable the disabled item one by one to find out the culprit. Hope it helps.
