Slow install of programs

Hi there,

I have a strange problem, when I try to install a 3rd party program (not vendor specific) the installation can take several hours, I do not get any errors for the first hour or two, it varies, then I either get "the installer has stopped responding, Retry or cancel"  sometime a retry will work but it can still be another hour or more, or it will continue on without error and finally finish.

The system is otherwise running perfectly, once the program is installed I have no problems.

Processor AMD FX(tm)-8120 Eight-Core Processor, 3100 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s)
BIOS Version/Date American Megatrends Inc. P1.40, 31-Oct-12
Installed Physical Memory (RAM) 8.00 GB

Any ideas?

John Sinclair.

Hi John,

Are you sure this issue just occur when you install all third-party software?

Be sure the Internet Explorer connection is fine, and then  disable the antivirus and Windows firewall for test.

If the issue still persists, please use Clean Boot to troubleshoot if there is software conflict:

Hi There, I tried the clean boot to no avail. I searched on the web and found a similar problem with Windows 7, the solution for me was to set the Volume Shadow Copy service to automatic and reboot. the problem was with any application that used the windows installer package, this requires the system restore system to be working, I checked under system protection and found is just said "Searching" I then checked the VSS service and it was set to manual and the status was stopping. I set it to automatic rebooted and all works fine.

Regards.
