Slow copy of ReadOnly files to Windows Server 2003
Hello, I've upgraded to Windows 7 from Vista some days ago and I've a strange performance issue during copy of files from Windows 7 to some server on my intranet. If I copy ReadOnly files to a Windows Server 2003 (sp1 or sp2) the copy process is really slow (2Kb/s). If I copy the same files without the ReadOnly attribute it takes less than a second as usual. With Windows Vista on my Pc the same copy process has worked always without problem. The slow copy happens either copyng on a share (\\myserver\dir) or directly accessing the folder using the $ commane (\\myserver\c$\dir). The same files copied on other Os are copied immediately, I tried XP and Vista. This issue happens on 3 pc upgraded from Vista to Win7, two are Win7 Professional, one is Ultimate. If I copy the same files (with readonly attribute) from a virtual xp machine hosted on Windows 7 there is no problem. Can someone help me? Regards, Matteo Conta

Little update: the problem still remains if I copy files using the Command Shell, the removing of the ReadOnly attribute doesn't work. If I use the Explorer and I copy the files with ReandOnly attribute is slow, without it is fast. The problem is still unsolved.

Hi, Based on my research, I would like to suggest the following: 1. Boot the system to Safe Mode with networking and see how it works. 2. Ensure that the NIC driver for Windows 7 is up-to-date. 3. Please run the following command in an elevated command prompt in Windows 7: netsh interface tcp set global rss=disabled netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled netsh int ip set global taskoffload=disabled 4. Disable SNP in Windows Server 2003 by setting Registry as following: Note: Please perform a full-system backup first. [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters] EnableTCPChimney=dword:00000000 EnableTCPA=dword:00000000 EnableRSS=dword:00000000 An update to turn off default SNP features is available for Windows Server 2003-based and Small Business Server 2003-based computers Hope this helps. Thank you for your help, I've checked all your suggestion with no lucky but... at the end of the day, after your suggestions, I tried to stop the Kaspersky Antivirus on the server and... the problem disappeared! I excluded this action in the past days because the problem happened only to win7 new clients and not to other clients, so I excluded server issues... I was wrong.. Thanks for the support, Matteo Conta
