Slow Internet Connection
Have a HP DC7800 SFF and getting verry slow downloads, including Windows Update. Connectivity remains constant, just very, very slow. I have another HP PC (Different Model) on the same switch using Win7 running fine so I know it's not my Internet connection.I have not installed any third party software as of yet. Fresh install of Ent-x32.Disabling the Windows firewall didn't make any differences. All drivers have been installed properly.I don't plan on installing anything else until this is resolved. We're piloting win07 for corporate use so this is definitely creating a road block.Update -Finally was able to update the NIC drivers for the onboard Intel 82566DM-2 from MS's web site. Issue remains. I also attempted the registry settings. EnableTCPChimney=dword:00000000 EnableTCPA=dword:00000000 EnableRSS=dword:00000000Still - Slow response Haven't installed any Anti-Virus and using MS's default firewall with home settings.

Update - After reformatting and trying different scenarios, I finally got the speed to be a little better, but not up to par on what it could be.Here's what I've tried.Installed Intels 82566DM-2 driver - Downed from Intels Win7 drvrInstalled HP's Intel 82566DM-2 driver - Downed from HP Win7 drvrBoth of these solutions brought the driver version to 9.13.12 dated 6/5/09So I bit the bullet and tried just downing MS's version of the driver from MS update. Took a whopping 3hrs to down 12mb. It installed 9.13.12 dated 6/5/09 as well. The speed is a little more workable now.I was able to actually run a speed test and getting 1102Kb/s down and 447Kb/s upOn another HP model - same network on win7, I'm getting 7818Kb/s down, 484Kb/s up. No special tweakings were needed....Obviously something still not right here, but least it's progress. wth

Hi, I would like to suggest you update the BIOS and the motherboard drivers to check the issue. If it does not work, I also would like to suggest you refer to the following link and disable the Receive Window Auto-Tuning feature. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947239 What’s the result? You may also consider to disable TCP/IP version 6 to check the issue. Good luck!Arthur Li - MSFT

Thanks for the Tip Arthur, but I'm sad to say, it didn't make any difference. When I got in this morning, I ran a test, wouldn't even launch. Applied the HTTP reg change, rebooted and tried the test again, still wouldn't launch. Went to a different site and got it to launch and rec'd a whopping 31Kb/s down! What's different from today than yesterday you might ask, not a darn thing. I did install SEP yesterday and the download speeds were still up around the 1102Kb/s after that. Removing SEP now and see if anything improves.I did try removing IPv6 yesterday as well. After removing SEP, down increased to 234Kb/s. Beginning to think this is more of a hdwe/driver issue than anything else and since this is a SFF device, I don't have a pint sized NIC sitting around to try.

Hi, You may also test the issue in Safe Mode with Networking and Clean Boot. What’s the result?Arthur Li - MSFT

I did try this, however, right after I enter my password, the system shuts down and reboots. (BSOD) Definitely something going on with the drvrs. It ran fine when I had it formatted with XP.Mark

Hi, I would like to confirm that the BSOD occurred in both Safe Mode with Networking and Clean Boot? Most of the BSOD issues are caused by the hardware or hardware drivers. Would you please send me more information for analyzing. For your convenience, I have created a workspace for you. You can upload the information files to the following link. (Please choose "Send Files to Microsoft") Workspace URL: https://sftasia.one.microsoft.com/choosetransfer.aspx?key=ff1f3f3e-7cd8-4a9d-bae9-67f136b3a9f2 Password: 0+v+[)I!@Y7GxsLi Note: Due to differences in text formatting with various email clients, the workspace link above may appear to be broken. Please be sure to include all text between '(' and ')' when typing or copying the workspace link into your browser. Meanwhile, please note that files uploaded for more than 72 hours will be deleted automatically. Please ensure to notify me timely after you have uploaded the files. Thank you for your understanding. Collect Minidump Files ================= 1. Click "Start", input "SYSDM.CPL" (without quotation marks) in the “Search” bar and press “Enter”. 2. Switch to the "Advanced" tab and click the "Settings" button under "Startup and Recovery". 3. Under "Write debugging information" section, make sure the "Small memory dump (128KB)" option is selected. 4. Make sure "%SystemRoot%\Minidump" is in the "Small dump directory" open box and click “OK”. If the Blue Screen appears again, please refer to the following steps to collect memory dump files: 1. Click “Start”, type “%SystemRoot%\Minidump" (without quotation marks) in “Search” bar and press “Enter”. 2. Go to your Desktop, right-click on it and create a new folder named "Dump". 3. Copy all the memory dump files (looks like [Mini092008-01.dmp]) in Minidump to this folder. 4. Right-click on the Dump folder, click "Send To", and click "Compressed (zipped) Folder". 5. Please send the ZIP file to us. Arthur Li - MSFT

OK, I did a fresh format. Did not install any other drivers other than updating the Intel 82566DM-2 driver from MS Catolgue of drivers web site.. I booted to safe mode and it let me past the login screen. In Safe mode with network - I still only get 112k down. Up is running great at 494K (Yes you read that right - Up is quicker)For the Blue screen issue, the only difference I can think of is that I did use Vista drivers for Sound, PCI Serial Port and PCI Simple Comm Controller. Probably one of those that caused the blue screen. But not to get off of this thread, the network performance is still subpar. I now have two different HP models hooked up to the same network on win7 and they are humming along. I did go to HP and see what they had to say and basically their reponse is that they haven't tested win7 on this model thus will not support it. Being that I'm using a win7 Intel Nic driver, I fail to see the ramification. My consensus is that this is still a Hdwe issue somewhere. Even though, WinXP runs just fine on the same machine. If I had another one to test along side of it, I would.Mark

Hi, I also consider that this could be a hardware compatibility issue. Since Windows 7 was a fresh install, no damaged system file or third party software could be existed or caused the issue. I would like to suggest you check the hardware compatibility issue on Windows 7 Compatible Center. In addition, do you have other models of the network cards to test the issue?
