Skype for Business auditing

Hi all,

I've been put in charge of looking at the security of Skype for Business as a business tool. I know that all communications between Skype for Business users can be audited. My question is that if we enable the feature for the Skype for Business users to communicate with users on Skype, is that able to be audited as well as between Skype for Business users?

Thank you,

Brendan

Hi,

If you deploy a monitoring server, all user sessions, both P2P and conferencing, internal or external, are logged on the Monitoring Server SQL database.

To allow archiving of the IM sessions data, you can choose whether to archive internal messages only, or internal and external messages.

Thank you for your response Yoav. If our Skype for Business is hosted with Microsoft using their Office 365 platform, is this something Microsoft offers with the Skype for Business package? We are currently testing the E3 plan and may potentially roll it out to more departments.

Thanks,

Brendan

Hi Brendan,

Lync Online archiving is accomplished using Exchange Online archiving.

This is great information. Just one last quick question. The article wasn't clear as to if this only applies to Lync to Lync conversations or any conversations (including Lync to Skype). Do you know if it applies to both scenarios?

Thanks,

Brendan

I'm actually not sure about this one.
My assumption is that it will save the session regardless of the other party's configuration, be it a federated partner or a Skype \ PIC session.

Hope that helps.
