Skype 5.3 was working on Windows 7 64 bit until a Microsoft update last week.
I have netbook ASUS EeePC with Win7 Starter and had today the same problem with opening Skype I think, to avoid difficulties in following procedure described at crazyengineers.com, it would be easier to find directly shared.xml file for Skype this way: 1. Close Skype 2. Right-click the Skype icon in the system tray (at the bottom right of the screen) 3. Choose Quit. In my case I had to close Skype process in Task Manager because there was no Skype icon in system tray. 4.Click the drive with OS Win7 : in my case C: 5.Click "Users" folder 6.Click your profile folder (on my netbook it was "ASUS", on yours it would be profile with your name) 7. Click "AppData" folder 8. Click "Roaming" folder 9. Click "Skype" folder 10. delete "shared.xml" file 11. Restart Skype. The shared.xml file will be recreated. I did it this way and it worked. Thanks Ajkapi, Its worked for me as well, nice trick. Chreers Vijai Prakassh Maurya
