Skips the Welcome Screen and goes right into an account
My computer is running Windows XP Professional Edition and a few days ago my computer started log in direct without stopping at the welcome screen. I have checked the settings in the user account and at "control userpasswords2" and are set to enable the welcome screen. I have a s/w firewall, antivirus and some additional spyware program and none is reporting any suspicious. I have only one account set uo for this computer. Anybody have an idea ??Nils1 person needs an answerI do too

You have a password on the account? The "Automatic Logon" isn't set in the registry?-- Shenan Stanley MS-MVP --How To Ask Questions The Smart Wayhttp://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html

Hi, thanks for the speedy reply. No I don't have a password for the account but that's not different than before. I have been trying to find that entry but haven't located it. Do you have a pointer.NIls

Although old-fashioned, Run (Windows key +R) > "gpedit.msc" > OK > computer conf. > Windows settings > Security settings > security options > interactive logon:do not require CTRL+ALT+DEL > Disable should at least force you to bring up a prompt with the username by Ctrl+Alt+Del

I checked this and it was set like that. If I logout or "change user" I will come to the welcome screen so it is working, it's only when I start the computer up that it's bypassing this and go direct into the desktop.

Hi again. As far as I can see everything is set to enable the welcome screen but for some reason the system bypass this and logs right into the desktop when I power up or reboot. Any more ideas ?Nils

Yes, I checked settings for automatic login and everything is set to enable the welcome screen. As I said earllier in this thread, I don't have a password but I didn't have that before either and then the welcome screen came up. I only have one account on this computer. Can this come from resent windows updates I done such as "Microsoft .NET Framework 4 för Windows XP" and "Uppdate for rotcertifikat" which I did on August 27.
