Since upgrading to Windows 7 Ultimate 32-Bit I can't download anything or extract .zip folders
Hello - hope someone can help. I've just installed Windows 7 Ultimate (32-Bit) on my sister's laptop, everything seemed to be fine at first but boy was I wrong: When I try to extract files from a .zip folder I get error 0x80004005 When I try to install files such as Microsoft Security Essentials or any other .exe files which act as downloaders I receive the "Extraction Failed - File is Corrupt" notification. All Windows Live products fail to download with an error message (will post it after sending this as I need to close explorer to let the installer work) I tried to download another browser to see if this would fix the problem and receive error 0x80040204 when the Chrome installer had finished. There are also 2 windows updates which fail to download (will get these error messages after I restart my computer). It's almost as if the basic firewall is blocking the ability to download, install and extract content on the PC but i've tried this without the firewall on and that was no good either. If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated. I'm running out of ideas and have spent hours in trial and error trying to isolate the problem. Thanks! Edit: I've tried most trouble shooting options, it was a clean install and nothing is telling me there is a problem. My laptop is a Toshiba Satellite L350

You can also try In-place upgrad to repair the system files: In-Place upgrade (Repair install) =========== 1. Start the computer by using the current Operating System. 2. Insert the Windows 7 DVD in the computer's DVD drive. 3. Use one of the following procedures, as appropriate: If Windows automatically detects the DVD, the Install now screen appears. Click Install now. If Windows does not automatically detect the DVD, follow these steps: a. Click the Start Button, type Drive:\setup.exe in the start search box and then click OK. Note: Drive is the drive letter of the computer's DVD drive. b. Click Install now. 4. When you reach the "Which type of installation do you want?" screen, click Upgrade.Vivian Xing - MSFT

Hi Vivian, Turns out it's a Netgear router problem. I spent 6 hours on the phone to them for them only to tell me what I already knew and wouldn't even compensate me with a new one after I extended my support warrantee. Once I buy a new one with a little luck I'll be working fine again! Thanks for your help!

Hi, Unfortunately I am having the same problem on all of my Windows 7 x64 builds. No Netgear software or routers on my network. A user with XP SP3 32bit was able to unzip same file successfully. I tried unzipping with 7zip and it worked too. Hmmm. For the record, the contents of the zip file were autocad dwg files and was only about 3.3MB.
