Hi I have gone to log into my machine as I have done a million times before with my PIN.  However the interface will only accept the password (that I can not remember) and the options to change the log in method are no longer there.

I have read the material that is here about this already however this does not address my issues because I can not log in to the machine to change the settings under the account.

I need a solution to this so that I can get back to the log in option with my pin.

Now that you've configured a password, a picture password and a PIN, you'll be able to easily select which method you want to use each time you sign-in to your account. When you find yourself on the sign-in screen, click "Sign-in options" to display three icons.

If you have disabled PIN log in, changing Sign-In Option require administrator permission, and you could log on as another administrators account the do the rest of job.
