Side-by-side question
I get this message on my laptop (Vista) when I try to open my Outlook email: "The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log for more detail". In order to fix it the last time I did it, I had to uninstall and reinstall Microsoft Office 2010. Is there a way to fix it so it STAYS fixed??? Thanks

As per this article, it says that the author was facing a similar issue. He got it fixed by installing VC++ Redistributable: http://winserverteam.org.uk/blogs/mark/archive/2008/08/18/incorrect-side-by-side-configuration-caused-by-missing-runtime-libraries.aspx So, I would suggest you to download and install this: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=8328 Please post back here if this does not resolve your issue. Hello PatriciaGS, First of all: welcome to the Microsoft TechNet forums. However, this is the Windows 7 section of the forums, so please post this question in the Windows Vista section. With kind regards, Laurenz

Okay, Let met try the same problem on my wife's Toshiba netbook. It is running Windows 7 starter and we are getting the same side-by-side message (The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log for more detail") when trying to run AVG 2011 anti virus software. It is now to the point where I get a different message (Click to Run Application Manager - Microsoft Excel 2010 cannot be opened. Try again or repair the product in Control Panel) that I can not run either Microsoft Word 2010 or Excel 2010. I have seen posts about the reinstalling VC++ Redistributable but the results seem to be mixed. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Skando
