Shutdown trouble
When I select restart or quit Windows 7 as it often happens that he does not do the former after 30+ seconds. He closes the applications (NOD32 and Xfire) that he should do when you shut down/reboot.

Hi nicke157 The most common reason for shutdown/restart problems is that a program is running that will not close properly and this causes the shutdown process to hang. Try closing all open programs, including XFire, NOD32, and any other open programsbefore shutting down and see if this behavior still occurs.Hope this helps.Thank You for testing Windows 7 Beta Ronnie Vernon MVP

Closing all running programs doesn't help. The shutdown process gets to the screen that says "Shutting down..." with the animated circle and just sits there. The computer has to be shut down manually by holding the power button in for several seconds. There is no indication on the next boot that anything was amiss; W7 starts just as if it had done a clean shut down. What did MS change between Build 7000 (which always shut down perfectly) and Build 7100 (which never shuts down, even for the reboot required during installation)?

In my case this turned out to be a problem with the W7 driver for the 5-port VIA VT6212L USB hub that am using. Whenever I had a flash drive in one of the ports, W7 would hang during shutdown. By copying the USB Enhanced Host driver from my old W7 Beta (build 7000) to the new W7 RC (build 7100), the problem went away. The driver is usbehci.sys and is found in the windows\system32\drivers folder. This is not, of course, a permanent solution but hopefully MS will see this comment and revisit the changes that were made to usbehci.sys for build 7100.
