I have two PC's running Win 8.1 pro. One system was developed from downloads over the internet since release, the other was a full clean installation from  a purchased  RETAIL copy.

On the latter installation if I change the "show more applications in APP view" button under the tiles menu then it responds correctly and shows more tiles but if I do the same on the original system the Button changes when selected but does not keep the setting at all.

If you compare the registry values in HKEY-CURRENT USER  \SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS\CURRENTVERSION\IMMERSIVESHELL\GRID there are  a few differences and the DWORD "Layout_ShowMoreAPVApps"  is not present on the original version. If I manually add this DWORD  it still does not correct the problem.

Anyone any ideas why these two supposedly identical versions on Win 8.1 PRO are not ?

Hi,

I tested the registry value"Layout_ShowMoreAPVApps" after it is changed to 1 (show more apps), then press F5 to refresh the registry, then it takes effects only if I restart explorer.exe, so, please make sure that its value is set to "1", press F5, launch Task Manager, find Windows Explorer, click Restart, then check the result again.

Hi,

Since the regiistry entry is only related the current user, so I suspect that something is wrong with the specific user profile, I suggest you check if this issue persists in another user account, if you don't have a acocunt, you can create a new one to confirm this.
