Sharp Increase in Malware
I have noted a sharp increase in malware of late. Thankfully the team looking after the Microsoft Security Essentials is able to keep up with the onslaught. So far I have found 4 pieces of malware in the last 30 days, this is not good. i take security very seriously. I only wish there was more recourse against the perpetrators of this sort of attack. Hello Vegan Fanatic, The industry is slowly catching up with some of the perpetrators but unfortunately the legal process can be slow and lengthy. Your can make your displeasure known here >> http://www.malwarecomplaints.info/ Below are two examples of where perpetrators have been brought to justice. http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20100325/ts_alt_afp/uscrimefraudjusticeinternet http://www.darknet.org.uk/2009/01/tjx-tj-maxx-and-marshall%E2%80%99s-hacker-jailed-for-30-years/

VF, how are you getting these malware files into your computer where MSE is detecting them? Antivirus/antimalware software is good to have, but it is at best a safety net, and should not be relied upon as a prime defense. I suggest re-evaluating the practices and processes that are exposing you to the malware in the first place. For example, IE can be set to not load anything active (e.g., ActiveX, active scripting) except from sites you have put in your Trusted Sites list. As much malware is delivered via ads from domains other than the main page you're looking at, this is actually VERY effective. I follow this practice and I can't remember the last time my antivirus software (Avast 5.0 Pro) caught anything trying to sneak in. Not only that, but I see virtually no ads. -Noel

My own site has ads as I need some income from them. Filters only deprive me of income. I have found even Reuters was penetrated not so long ago when one of their ad feeds was broken into. It took me a week to figure out how to stop the malware. Reuters even went so far as to remove all ads for several days after the outbreak. So even major sites can be hit, let alone smaller ones who lack the resources larger companies have. Vote if answered or helpful, I am running for Office (joke)! Hi VF and NC, me too its been a long time since i detected a virus i mean the only recent time i got a virus alert was when i visited a suspicious game web site which contained a IEframe trojan but it didnt even got installed coz mse blocked it before i downloaded it...but this is like at least a year ago and before that i cant remember the last time i got an infection... i think thats prolly coz i follow all the best practices and i go even beyond that by researching on google everyday for new tweaks and polcies enforcement and im not counting on my GPO setup, thats like hyper secured lol and i also restricted even more users rights in the local disk c: and i only allow users to read and execute in addition to that on public folders i completly blocked and removed and other permissions also on the top of that i restricted in roaming folders some permissions in order to block malicious session cookies ,so i can login in any trusted site but in malicious forums or sites i cant login even if i allow all its cookies coz they dont have permissions to perform further actions, and how do i know that? a few days ago i was trying to login in a forum which i ahve never visited and it ddidnt seem to be so trusty then even i allowed all its cookies when i tried to log in it says i needed to allow the web site cookies so that just has proven that my tecnique worked ^^ All the best, RR

I see malware a lot, make some cash cleaning it up. But still I am dismayed at the number of people hit of late. Vote if answered or helpful, I am running for Office (joke)!
