Sharing files and Folders with Ubuntu
I have a default install of 7 RC and I'm trying to share my Documents folder with a Netbook running Ubuntu. Both machines use the same Username and password, and I've shared the documents folder on the W7 machine. The Netbook sees the W7 machine in Samba shares but when I try to connect from the Ubuntu machine, it just goes into a permamnent Username/Password dialog box loop.Is there something else I need to enable on W7 for this to work?

I use XUbuntu on networks without any issues at all.The below are from posting on this forum...uninstall Windows Live Sign-In Assistant Give everyone access to the folders you have shared: First of all, go to Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Network and Sharing Center > Change Advanced Sharing Settings. In the Home or Work profile, make sure you have Network Discovery, File and Printer Sharing and Public Folder Sharing all set to On and Password Protected Sharing to Off. Presumably you have shared the folders correctly. If not, right-click the folder(s) to share > Properties > Sharing Tab > Advanced Sharing > Share this folder > Apply, OK > Close. Two little people should appear on the icons of the folders that are shared. An alternative way of sharing is to drag the folders you want to share to the Public folder. As you dont have Password Protected Sharing turned on, you have to change the security permissions on your folder(s) to allow Everyone access. Right-click the shared folder > Properties > Security Tab > Edit > Add and type Everyone (not the quotes) into the box and OK. Tick the boxes next to the permissions you want to allow (e.g. Read or Write, etc.) then Apply > OK, etc. You may see some screens coming up with message 'An error occurred while applying ..'. This is not unusual and can be ignored by clicking Continue Dumb down windowsclick the start button and type secpol.msc in the search function. Browse to "Local Policies" -> "Security Options". Now look for the entry "Network Security: LAN Manager authentication level" and open it. Click on the dropdown menu and select "Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated". Apply the settings.

Hi, Both ofthe machines should have different names, if they do. Follow this Orb - search window - gpedit.msc - computer configuration - windows settings - security settings - local policies - security options - scroll down tomircosoft network client: digitally sign communication (always) set to disable. - mircosoft network server: digitally sign communication (if client agrees ) set enable. Restart computer and try to see if it works. Slan go foill, Paul

Done both those, as well as disabling SMB2 - no joy! Still the log-in screen loop....

It is on the Ubuntu Notebook. As a workaround, we can build another Windows 7 machine. Assure the two Windows 7 machines can access each other without any user name and password. To do this, we can make surethe network settings on Windows 7 are correct. Then, let's deploy relevant settings on Ubuntu Notebook again. Novak
