Sharing drive in workgroup
I recently built a new computer. Here are the specs. Motherboard - Intel DP55KG CPU - Intel Core i7 K 875 @ 2.93Ghz Memory - 8 Gb (3.49 Gb in XP) Video - NVidia GeForce 210 (512) Dual-boot Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit, XP Pro SP3 My first hard drive is a 1Tb drive partitioned into 5 partitions (C, D, E, F, G). I also have two other terabyte drives which are H and I. I have drive C (and all the other drives) set to share in my network (workgroup). You can view my settings at http://mewnlite.com/sharing.jpg Windows 7 is installed on Drive C and Windows XP on Drive D Two of my other computers on the network are set up *exactly* the same way. (Windows 7, Windows XP, 5 partitons on 1st drive, two other drives) I also have sharing set up in Windows XP to share ALL the drives. However no matter which OS I'm running on the new machine, neither of my other machines can read drive C on the new machine. "C is not accessible." But the new machine can read drive C on both of the other machines which are set up exactly the same way. I really need to get this resolved since I have my other two set up to sync automatically at 3 AM every morning and I want to get this new machine included in that. Any help will be appreciated!

Using several partitions is not the best way to use your disk. When sharing, you need to make sure everyone is on the same "workgroup" My MVP is for Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7 IT, and I am getting increasingly good with Visual Studio. Obviously I have them all in the same workgroup or I wouldn't be able to share *any* of the drives. My "My Documents" folder on a seperate drive (H) and it is accessible from either OS. Several of my programs are installed on C drive and can be run from Win7 or XP. Quicken is a good example. Also Eudora which I use for email and XNews, my newsreader. If the truth be known, I only run Windows 7 since I know support for XP will run out someday. I starting running Windows 7 when it was RC. Hardly any of the problems that anyone griped about were ever addressed. Although it boots up faster than XP, most everything runs slower. Windows Explorer takes forever to load on large folders. The left pane is flaky. Half the time when you expand a folder, it scrolls to the bottom of the pane instead of the top. Anyway, my problem is solved. I installed the trial version of Network Magic in Windows 7 and C is now accessible from the other machines. And it also fixed it for XP. In other words I can run XP on the new machine and C is accessible from the other machines. So now I'll either pay for Network Magic or or see if I can figure out what it did, uninstall it, and do it myself. It's hard to figure out which "forum" to go to any more. What happened to all the "good guys" that used to frequent microsoft.public.windowsxp.general and the other groups? The only intelligent answer I got to this problem was in sevenforums.com. At least the guy there gave me credit for knowing enough to have all my computers in the same workgroup :-)
