Sharing a Windows 7 printer with OSX 10.6.4
I have a Windows 7 desktop computer with a HP LaserJet P 1006 that is set to shared.
I am also sharing some folders on the Windows 7 desktop.
My MacBook Pro running OSX 10.6.4 can see and fully access all the shared folders located on the Windows 7 desktop.
The MacBook Pro computer cannot even see the Windows 7 desktop when trying to setup the printer. When scanning the network for printers the Windows 7 desktop does not show up. I am also unable to connect to it when using it's IP address.
For sharing folders everything is working fine. For sharing printers nothing is working.
The printer is set to shared. The shared name for the printer is HPLJ. I have tried with "Render print jobs on client computers" as both checked and unchecked.
I have created a Windows Credential and a Generic Credential for the MacBook Pro. This seemed to help establish file sharing but has had no effect on printer sharing.
I don't know if the Print Server Properties for the HP printer are correct but Windows 7 is not allowing me to make any changes to them.
The printer needs to be on the Windows 7 Desktop because the MacBook Pro, being a notebook, is not always present on the network.
Any ideas?

On the Windows 7 machine, have you enabled Network Discovery? This is essential to see other networked devices.

I have.
The Windows computer has access to the MacBook Pro folders I am sharing.
The MacBook Pro has access to the Windows folders I am sharing.
The MacBook Pro "Add Printer -> Windows" cannot even see the Windows computer.

It's possible to enable file & printer sharing in Windows 7 without enabling Network Discovery, & therefore you'd be able to see Windows shares from your Mac but you wouldn't be able to see the devices on the network.
Try the steps outlined here, I have read other posts about the LDR/LDP being important for Mac printing.
How do I make my printer on Windows 7 share with my mac?

Hi,
You could refer to the link which cschaar mentioned. You should confirm the LPD protocol is turned on. Because
the Line Printer Daemon protocol (or LPD) is a network protocol for submitting print jobs to a remote printer.
