Shared printer woes part 2
Although Bubbapcguy's suggestion that I bypass the Wizard and directly connect to the officially supported Laser Jet worked and I can print.... If I attempt to modify the printer settings (duplex printing, etc.) we crash. Whether from notepad or directly from the devices and printers context menu. A message like the following (or some apps just beep the computer and do nothing) c:\windows\system32\rundl32.exe function xxx caused a protection fault ... operation could not be completed (not sure why 64 bit Windows is running a 32 bit application??) Recap: New Windows 7 (64 bit) machine If I hook the printer up directly to the USB port it works fine. If I connect to it as a shared printer that is sitting on a 32 bit XP I can print but not modify any printer settings. I can not connect to this printer through the Add Printer Wizard (complains it needs drivers), only through browsing the network and then connect. Any ideas or things I might try to get this baby printing as it should?? P:)

According to this website, you’d better to download the correct driver from HP website. Firstly please open “Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Programs and Features”, then uninstall the existed printer driver. Then open “Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Devices and Printers” and uninstall the printer. Then, download the latest driver from the following website. Thank you so much, it works ... sorry for not getting back here sooner. FYI I was NOT able to uninstall any drivers, nothing appears for me in your directions. There are NO drivers to download from HP. They say they are part of Windows 7. Following your 'Add a local Printer' steps I was able to tell the Wizard to not use the existing but to update the drivers. For the first time I'm able to set printer options and use this shared printer. P:)
