Shared Folders from XP Pro not accessible in Vista Ultimate
HI,I have a home network w/ 2 pc's, XP Pro and Vista Ultimate, and they are in one subnet and workgroup. I activate folder sharing both machines. In XP, I can access the shared folder from Vista but when I'm in Vista I can't access the PC and the shared folder. It gives an error "Windows can't access the pc", even if I turn off the firewall in XP. I can ping the PC.And also on both machines, they can't view the PC in the network neighborhood.Any suggestions what to do?

Hi, Hi,Thank you for your post. Based on my research, I would like to suggest the following: 1. Let's check the basic networking and security settings first: 1) Check Sharing and Security settings on the Windows XP computer, and make sure that you have assigned the Full-Control permissions to Everyone. Alternatively, you can disable the sharing of the target and then share it again with the default settings. 2) Ensure you log on the Windows Vista computer with the Administrator account. 3) The firewall on the both computers are configured to allow the Files and Printer sharing. 4) Try to access the Windows XPs share from the Windows Vista computer with the type of \\computer name\folder. 2. This issue can also be resulted by the factor that some third party security software or firewall blocked the Windows XP being accessed. Lets perform a Clean Boot to check our issue. How to perform advanced clean-boot troubleshooting in Windows XP If everything worked before, a quick solution is to restore the system back to the previous status when the issue didnt occur with System Restore. (Note: Performing a system restore may cause the loss of the current system settings; therefore, before doing this, please make sure that the system restore point is not too old and set a restore point for the current status.) Meanwhile, if you have another computer on the network, please also check if the Windows XP computer can be accessed by this one, and let me know the results as well as the OS version on the third computer. Hope this helps. Nicholas Li - MSFTNicholas Li - MSFT
