Shared CD installation not working over network
I have a shared CD drive on my network that is running on a Windows 2008 Server that I am logged into. On my new Windows 7 Pro PC I can see the drive and start the installation. Use of the device is sporatic at best. It will work then it won't be
accessible unless I restart. Errors stating that "The diskette is not present". Just flaky behavior. Any ideas?Matt

Hi,
Thanks for posting in Microsoft TechNet Forum.
How about other share drives? Can you access them successfully?
First, see if reinstalling the drivers fixed the problem.
Second, we can try to use Registry Editor to increase the default time-out period on Windows server 2008 to check result. To do this, follow these steps, and then
quit Registry Editor:
1.
Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
2.
Locate and then click the following key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\lanmanserver\parameters
3.
In the right pane, click the
autodisconnect value, and then on the Edit menu, click Modify. If the
autodisconnect value does not exist, follow these steps:
a)
On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click REG_DWORD.
b)
Type
autodisconnect, and then press ENTER.
4.
On the Edit menu, click Modify.
5.
Click Hexadecimal.
6.
In the Value data box, type
ffffffff, and then click OK.
Meanwhile, if you cannot access a CD or DVD, you may have to reinstall some programs. Some programs might not be able to use your CD or DVD drive until you reinstall
those programs. Some examples of programs that might be affected are:
·
iTunes software by Apple
·
Nero software by Nero Inc
·
Roxio Creator software by Sonic Solutions
·
Zune software by Microsoft
Hope it helps.
