Shared CD Drive refusing permission to computers in HomeGroup

Hi,

I've just shared my DVD drive with my HomeGroup from my desktop (Win 8.1 Pro N).  I'm trying to access it on the same network over WiFi from my Surface Pro 3 (Win 8.1 Pro) and its showing the error "Windows Cannot Access \\XXX\CD Drive\" "You do not have permission to access \\XXX\CD Drive. Contact your network adminstrator to request access".

I can see and access other shared folders that my computer is sharing.  I've also done the following tests:

1. Opened an ISO on my desktop and shared the virtual CD Drive on the network.  - I could access this from my surface.

2. Checked the permissions on the shared physical CD Drive and seen that "Everyone" has Read permissions set.

What am I missing?

Thanks in advance

Open the HomeGroup troubleshooter by swiping in from the right edge of the screen, tapping Search (or if you're using a mouse, pointing to the lower-right corner of the screen, moving the mouse pointer up, and then clicking Search), entering troubleshooting in the search box, and then tapping or clicking Troubleshooting. Tap or click Network and Internet, and then tap or click HomeGroup. Click Next, and then follow the instructions on your screen

Hi chris31389,

Are you sharing the physical cd drive directly?

I am afraid sharing the physical cd drive directly is not available.

We will get a notification(The device is not ready):

We should mount an file and then the whole file mounted can be shared with others.

Best r
