Share folder with Everyone Read/Write
I share a folder on windows 7 rc,I give everyone read/write permissions. ThenI access the folder from an xp box and cannot see the share. For the user I tried compername\username and password still no luck.If I turn off file sharing password protection then I can see the share and all of the others. Why do I have to turn off password proctection when Ihave marked it as Everyone read/write. I would think windows 7 would see the share was for everyone and say ok dont ask for credentials.Any help you can provideis appreciated.

When you mark a share as Everyone read/write, the Windows 7 system still requires authentication from every connection. When that fails the connection is rejected. As soon as you disable file sharing password protection, you enable Guest access. This enables access to the share without authentication. This is why you can now access the system from your XP machine.By default the authentication from XP is not compatible with Windows 7, that's why you can only access the share without authentication.Ray

You can change the file sharing password at Advanced sharing settings.

Hello aloha288,If you are having trouble seeing Windows 7 machines from Windows XP then the problem is likely LLTD. Can you access the Windows 7 machine by \\computername or \\IPaddress? -Scott
