I am needing help with this. I have tried many tutorials, but none have worked. I think my problem is that I cannot connect to either computer from the other. I tried a tutorial at How-to-Geek, http://www.howtogeek.com/forum/topic/sharing-files-and-printers-between-windows-7-and-windows-xp-the-other-way?replies=1, but that is when the printer is hooked up to the Windows 7 Computer, not Windows XP. Hi, Can you ping the Windows 7 machine from the Windows XP machine? I suggest you perform the following steps to troubleshoot the issue. 1. Temporarily disable firewall on each machine. 2. Assure the following services are started on each machine: Computer Browser, Server, Workstation 3. Write down the computer name for Windows XP. Click Start button in Windows 7 and type \\XP computer name, and then press enter. Can you access the Windows XP computer successfully? If not, please let me know. This worked for me, but I used my IP address instead of my XP computer name, ie. \\XP192.196.1.9, or whatever your IP is. I am worried about my firewall settings. I had to make an exception on my firewall settings, excluting my workgroup, then turn my firewall back on. If I turn my friewall back on without the exception, then my printer stops working. Am I safe??? Any suggestions???
