Shake the window
Open two or morewindows, then click and holdthe title bar(primary mouse button) of one while the other(s) is/are behind it.When you "shake" the window back and forth, the windows behind the one you're shaking will minimize...and maximize when you shake it again. Is this new or just new to me?Pretty cool I think.

Yup.. It's a new feature. But there are more "stupid mouse tricks" to play with.If you take a maximized window and drag the title bar down a bit, it becomes "restored".Toss it down toward the task bar and it will minimize that window completely.Toss it toward the left or right and it will take up 1/2 of the side of the screen you tossed it towards - makes it handy to tile two windows side by side. If you move the mouse to the extreme right side of the task bar - to the right of the clock - you'll see the desktop, with an outline of any gadgets you might have on the screen. Click on that little rectangle and all windows get minimized. Click there again, and windows get restored to where they were before.

Yes this is a new feature, how useful it will be is another matter. Gimmicky stuff may look nice, but doesn't add value to the operating system.John Barnett - Windows XP Associate Expert; Windows Desktop Experience. - Web: http://www.winuser.co.uk; Web: http://xphelpandsupport.mvps.org; Web: http://vistasupport.mvps.org

I definitely don't see it as a plus, though(beyond the initial"cool factor").It's just more work myand others' future machines have to do. It raises the minimum requirements and such.

I think it's OK, because for the first time we've got a mouse-only way of minimising all windows apart from the one in use.I don't suppose it'll get used very often, but I'm glad it's there. Especially as "shaking" is hardly the sort of thing you'd do accidentally. So no, John, I don't agree with you in this case.

You if grab the bottom edge and drag it down till your mouse hits the taskbar/superbar, the window will expand to fill the screen vertically. rtk

HiI think it's useful.I am using dual monitors and they can get fairly crowded with many different apps. You can always use WINKEY+D or the new ShowDesktopto minimize everything, but the 'shake' is useful if you want to minimize everything, but keep one particular window open. Ronnie Vernon MVP

Instead of restoring, dragging and then maximising in 3 seperate actions, it's now just a single click and drag.

SPerry said: I can't seem to get the "Toss" to work at all. Any helpful pointers? -Steven Perry The only "toss" that works for me is the grabbing (left click and hold) of the title bar of a window and actually just moving it to the very top of the screen. (you don't have to actually let go of the window before you reach the top as a real "toss" would be.)when you get to the top, if your graphics card can accomodate it, you will see what looks like light emminating /flashing from the tip of your cursor. this gets your attention to let you know something has happened...also you will see (graphics card accom...) the glass-style impression of a full screen window (providing that your window can be maximized). this lets you know that when you let go of the mouse button, it will maximize.

I find the "shake" and "toss" very usefull since I have to work with many windows. My only complaint is that if you are working on a multimonitor environment these effects affect what you are doing on both displays.

I didn't use the tossing down bit that often.
