Setting and managing windows 7 service and security settings
Hi, Before moving on, I would like to know the full name of SCM you mentioned. We can back up the Group Policy object if the system is Windows Server. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc770536.aspx Kim Zhou TechNet Community Support

Hello, I am reading up on the use of GPO for managing security and settings though my needs are on a smaller scale. I want to backup and apply the baseline settings recommended by MS and modify them for different accounts on a single machine. I wondered if I need to just use the SCM tool to backup and apply the policies instead of using the full GPO manager? Back to my reading...

The full name of the tool is: Microsoft Security Compliance Manager. I installed it to backup and apply recommended security settings to improve windows 7 security.

Hi, Based my test and research, we can use the command-line tool called LocalGPO to import and export GPOs directly from a computers configuration. The installer is included in SCM, but its installed separately. It runs on Windows XP and later. SCM isnt dependent on Local GPO and Local GPO isnt dependent on SCM. Where LocalGPO shines is for non-domain joined systems and in conjunction with the Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT).
