How do I reset the Winlows firewall as my default firewall? What was the name of the "Fixit" program? What firewall(s) were previously installed on your computer? What anti-virus and other security programs are installed on your computer? Please open Control Panel and double click on "Security Center". Upon the assumption that Security Center reports that "Firewall" is ON, please click on the double arrow, next to the word "ON". You should see a statement that says "xxxxxx Firewall is currently ON. A firewall helps protect your computer ...". When you reply, please state the name of the active firewall (xxxxxx), as reported by the Security Center.

Similarly, you should never have more than one active firewall on your computer. That is why most third party firewalls such as Zone Alarm (or the firewall component of Norton, McAfee and Kaspersky security suites) turn off the Windows XP firewall.I don't have first hand experience of Windows Security Essentials or the Microsoft Fix-it tool. AFAIK, Microsoft Security Essentials doesn't include a firewall component. In any case, Windows Security Essentials is unlikely to conflict with the Windows XP firewall."Security Center" reports that the Windows Firewall is ON. On the other hand, Fix-it reports that the Windows Firewall is not your default firewall. Many security products embed themselves deeply into the Windows operating system. When you use Control Panel / Add & Remove Programs to remove anti-virus or security suites (such as McAfee, Norton, and Kaspersky), removal is often incomplete - and can leave residual traces of the program on your computer. That is why the developers of security software products provide special removal tools.I suspect there might still be traces of Defender Pro on your computer. Defender Pro includes a firewall component, so I recommend you download and run the appropriate removal tool. You can download the tool from www.defender-pro.com/support/index.php?_m=downloads&_a=view).If that doesn't help, I suggest you ask your question on the Fix-it forum at -http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/fixitcenter/threads.
